Veno-occlusive disease (VOD), also termed sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), is a rare but severe complication that can occur in patients receiving autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Mohamad Mohty, MD, PhD, Saint-Antoine Hospital, Paris, France, discusses an analysis that compared the impact of conditioning intensity on VOD severity and outcomes in patients receiving transplantation. Prof. Mohty emphasizes that it is crucial to raise awareness of the fact that VOD occurs even with reduced intensity conditioning, especially in the presence of several risk factors. This interview took place at the 29th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) in Madrid, Spain.
